Semiotics of the riverside

Performative Intervention, 2022

The riversides of Bolzano, Italy is a place for relaxation and recreation, but also a space  that can be unsafe and disempowering for many people, particularly for women and people from marginalised communities.

Referring to Martha Rosler’s famous video work “Semiotics of the kitchen” Sööt/Zeyringer, together with a group of locals, creates a performative intervention at the riverside. The project attempts to offer symbolic empowerment for people who face harassment or violence at this public space.

Concept and development: Sööt/Zeyringer
